Beesan is a visiting researcher at the School of Public Policy and Governance (SPPG) at the University of Toronto.
She completed her PhD in Political Studies in September 2016. Her research interests are in comparative politics, multiculturalism and religious diversity, education policy, as well as modes of integration in liberal democratic states.
She is currently in the process of turning her dissertation into a book manuscript, a comparative study that examines the institutional accommodation of Muslim minorities in the field of education with a focus on four jurisdictions: England, Scotland, Ontario and Quebec.
She is also co-investigator on a SSHRC funded project which seeks to map out civil society organizations active in the private sponsorship of Syrian refugees. The project focuses on the city of Toronto, and aims to assess the scope, strength, and future potential of organizations active in the private sponsorship and long-term integration of this particular group.
